2023 Fall Team

By Mark Schmetzer New blood played a key role in two teams winning long-awaited division championships in the Greater Cincinnati Women’s Golf Association Fall Team tournament. The COVID-19 pandemic led to Ivy Hills Country Club doubling its women’s membership role, helping lead to the club’s first-ever Division I championship, team captain Denise Meismer said. The infusion of new talent paid off. Ivy Hills went undefeated in each of its match play events and piled up 22 points in Week Five at Clovernook Country Club to move up from third place to first

2023 Crystal Bowl

By Mark Schmetzer Winning a Crystal Bowl Low Net championship is nothing new for the team of Lori Roberts and Tina Davis. Experience didn’t make the outcome any less enjoyable for the Hamilton Elks Golf Club tandem. Roberts and Davis finished ahead of the team of Triple Crown Country Club’s Ruth Ann Weiss and Kendall Reynolds in the annual Greater Cincinnati Women’s Golf Association event, played this year on July 29 at Triple Crown. “Actually, we have won before,” Roberts said. “We won five years ago, so this is our second time

Legends of Golf: Eleanor Hudepohl

By Mark Schmetzer Eleanor Hudepohl played high school golf at Ursuline Academy in Blue Ash, but she somehow avoided playing even one round at Blue Ash Golf Course. Her first experience proved to be rewarding. The Creighton University junior, who plays out of O’Bannon Creek Golf Club, shot a 73-71-72 – 216 to win the 108th Women’s Metropolitan Amateur Championship on May 31-June 2. Hudepohl, an Anderson Township resident, finished eight strokes ahead of Maketewah Country Club’s and two-time Met champion Allison Gonring, who shot a 77-71-76 – 224. Gonring was the

Low Kent Results

By Mark Schmetzer Clearly, there was plenty of credit to spread around for the Low Gross winning team at the 2023 Low Kent Tournament on July 19 at TPC Rivers Bend. The squad of Holly Jones, Lynn Thompson, Nancy DeCenso and Janice Kunkemoeller combined to shoot a 142, 12 strokes ahead of the team of Jan Kiefhaber, Betsy Coith, Leslie  Huesman and Maryanne Cardone. By virtue of Kent Memorial rules, which disallow one team to win both the Low Gross and Low Net championships, the latter crew captured the Low Net title with

High Kent Results

By Mark Schmetzer Cyndi Capano and Katie Yannucci sort of ventured out of their comfort zones when they joined Renetta Morrem and Celina Gronau in representing TPC River’s Bend at the Greater Cincinnati Women’s Golf Association High Kent Tournament at Terrace Park Country Club in July. “This was my first time,” Capano said. “This was the first time for the two of us playing in Greater Cincinnati golf events. I’m usually just a club player. I don’t usually venture out of the box.” Call it beginner’s luck. The TPC team captured the
